ABOUT:
The journey began in 1884, with a small industrial plant on the eastern Bank of watercourse Hooghly. it absolutely was named as Garden Reach Workshop (GRW) in 1916. Later, on 19th Apr 1960, it absolutely was confiscated by the govt. of Republic of India. With diversification in engineering product the name was modified to Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers Ltd (GRSE) on 1st January 1977.There was no looking back and since then GRSE has delivered quite 600 vessels.

GRSE has emerged as a number one workplace of Republic of India, building a good array of vessels, from world category Frigates to quick interceptor Boats. to keep with the world trends, GRSE has embarked upon modernization of its infrastructural facilities. On 5th sep 2006, GRSE got the standing of mini Ratna- class I.

For two consecutive years (2010-11 & 2011-12), GRSE has received the Honorable Raksha Mantri's Award for the simplest playacting workplace.

GRSE was presented the PSE Excellence Award 2013 for CSR & property, within the Miniratna class. The Award is instituted by Department of Public Enterprises and Indian Chamber of Commerce to acknowledge and honour the superb initiatives undertaken by the Central Public Sector Enterprises.

GRSE has won the 2d Prize (Region C) of the celebrated statesman Rajbhasha Puroskar (11-12) for Official Language Implementation. The Award was conferred by the Honorable President of india, Shri Pranab Mukherjee at a ceremony command at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, on Sep 14, 2013.

GRSE is that the 1st Ship Building organisation within the country and also the 1st DPSU to urge enfranchisement on Integrated Management System harmonizing ISO 14001:2004 (Environment Management System), SB OHSAS 18001:2007 (Occupational Health & Safety Assessment Standard), and linear unit ISO 50001:2011 (Energy Management System). 

GRSE was presented with 'Caring Company Award -2013' at the planet CSR Congress in metropolis on Gregorian calendar month 18, 2013The Institute of Public Enterprises, Hyderabad presented CSR –Corporate Governance Award on GRSE in 2012. 


GRSE has won the celebrated Raksha Mantri's Award in 2006-07 for Import Substitution in developing a "Common heavier-than-air craft Traversing System" for handling each ALH and Seaking heavier-than-air craft and Innovation in "Design & producing of Double Lane Bailey bridge for a transport load upto IRC category 70R".In the year 2007-08, GRSE additionally won the Raksha Mantri's Award for Import Substitution in "Indigenisation of Centrifugal Pumps of Russian Origin for Warships and Submarines of Indian Navy".

FACILITIES:
GRSE has ship building facilities in Kolkata and Ranchi.
It has an oversized pc power-assisted style (CAD) centre for ship modelling and style. There ar four workshops for plate preparation and steel fabrication.
GRSE features a dry dock for ships up to twenty six,000 metric tons deadweight (DWT). it's a building berth and 2 slipways for hull construction. it's a lined unrestricted non-tidal wet basin for fitting-out medium and little ships and another fitting-out advanced for ships with 3 berths aboard. additionally, it's 2 stream jetties for berthing smaller vessels up to 60 metres (200 ft) long. GRSE has engine repair and overhaul facilities in Ranchi.
On 1 July 2006, GRSE noninheritable  the loss-making Rajabagan waterfront (RBD) of Central interior Water Transport Corporation (CIWTC). RBD's facilities with its 600 metres (2,000 ft) city district helped alleviate a number of GRSE's house constraints and increase its production capability.
As of 2011, the workplace is undergoing a INR5.3 billion (US$86 million) upgrade program, expected to be completed by March 2012.
